Our Story

We are best friends and very much in love. We met at a swing dance on New Year’s Eve in 2001 and have been married since 2003. Tony is a manager at the University of California at San Francisco and Cynthia teaches Spanish part-time at a local community college. We both feel it is important that our children always be in the care of at least one parent. Cynthia teaches at the college two nights a week and loves being a stay-at-home mom during the day. Tony is a hands-on dad and he and Ben thoroughly enjoy their “boys’ nights” together while Cynthia is teaching. Parenting together is not only a pleasure, it has also truly deepened our love and commitment. We feel that the qualities that initially attracted us to each other have blossomed. We definitely make a good team!

Cynthia talks about Tony as a parent:

All the qualities that I loved about Tony before before he became a dad - his patience, dependability, fondness for structure and routine, and his incredible capacity for love and affection, have resurged stronger and that all that makes Ben (and me) feel very happy and secure!

Tony talks about Cynthia as a parent:
Simply put, Cynthia is a superstar and the reason that Ben walks around squealing his loud (and shrill) happy noise all the live long day! She is a wonderful wife and mother and I feel like the luckiest guy in the world.

Before becoming parents, our interests included hiking and cycling in the hills near our home, swing dancing and attending plays and dance performances. We also enjoyed traveling in Latin America and around the U.S. We’re delighted that we’ve been able to continue most of these activities as a family! Keeping Ben’s interests in mind, the hikes are now shorter, the bike rides require a child trailer, and the cultural activities take place in outdoor venues and often include live animals and face painting! We continue to travel as a family and needless to say, we love all our family adventures!  In college, we both studied in France and have since lived and worked in Latin America. We are fluent in Spanish and can get by very well in French. Ben understands and is starting to speak both Spanish and English.
