Open Adoption
and Parenting

We have always known it would be difficult for us to conceive a child together and open adoption was a natural choice for us. Adoption enriched many of our friends’ lives and Cynthia’s sister became a mother to both of her beautiful children through adoption. We are raising our son, Ben, in a fully open adoption, which allows him to maintain a relationship with his first mother as well as everyone in his birth family. We keep in touch with Email, phone calls, and trips to Texas. We feel a profound connection and an enormous amount of love for everyone in Ben’s birth family. Ben is truly loved from all directions by so many people and he will never wonder about his story or have to search for relatives. Adoption should not mean a child has to lose his first family forever. We believe that open adoption is best for the child and all members of the family and we look forward to sharing many special moments and milestones with you.

As parents, we have created a happy, stable family life full of love, adventure, solid ideals. As our kids move into the school years, we look forward to taking advantage of the many educational and enrichment opportunities a college town like Berkeley has to offer. Foreign languages, travel and dance have shaped our lives and we continue to share these experiences and more as a family! We want our children to have a good sense of curiosity about the world, as well as the self-esteem and confidence necessary to explore it. We will help them discover what they love to do and find a way to make a difference in the world. Most important, we want our children to know unconditional love from us, as well as their courageous birth families.
